Elastomeric Roof Coating For Tar & Gravel, Metal Roofs, and Flat Roof Repair.
Snow Seal® is a white, premium grade elastomeric roof coating and paint for sealing and saving roofs, reflecting sunlight, and dramatically lowering extreme temperatures to reduce cooling costs. Our industrial coatings are made with the finest acrylic and have the highest hide possible. It is easy to apply - simply pour it out and paint it on! This liquid, rubberized elastic coating flows easily into cracks and crevices and dries to completely seal leaks. Snow Seal will dry rapidly on warm days to form up to a 500% elastic roofing membrane that remains flexible at -25 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow Seal® Roof Coating resists cracking and peeling, drastically reducing the expansion and contraction that tears roofs apart; it extends the life of old roofs. Snow Seal bonds easily to virtually any surface. Some surfaces such as EPDM, rubber roofs or vinyl will need a primer coat of Ames' Super Primer™ for the best adhesion. Developed for cold and wet weather. Formulated to resist fungus, mold and mildew. This product is potable water compliant.

Ames Snow Seal Application Instructions - Do-It-Yourself in Three Easy Steps:
1. Clean and Prepare the Roof
Read all label instructions before beginning. Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area, to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction. Be sure surfaces are clean and dry before the coating application. All major cracks, joints and seams should be caulked with Blue Max trowel-grade liquid rubber. Do not use a silicone caulk. Follow seam taping instructions. Mask all sensitive areas before starting.
2. Seam Tape & Prime the Roof Surface
It is important to seam tape all joints and cracks to avoid future cracking and leaking. Use Ames' Peel & Stick Seam tape (PS250, PS450, PS650) to seam tape flashing to wood; wood to wood; concrete to wood; metal to wood; brick to wood; etc. Apply around flashings, windows and cracks in the walls. Refer to Ames Seam Tape label for application instructions. Do not use fiberglass or asphalt impregnated seam tape.
3. Pour It Out & Paint It On
Apply 1-2 coats of Snow Seal® or as needed.
Good: 1-2 coats of Snow Seal®.
Better: 2 coats of Snow Seal®, top coat with Ames’® Snow Seal® or similar Ames’ product.
Best: 3 coats of Snow Seal®; top with 2 coats of Ames’® Snow Seal® or similar Ames’® product. (For flat tar roofs with ponding water or rusty metal situations, see Snow Seal® product specifications.)
Weather & Drying Guidelines
Snow Seal® is best applied between 40 to 90 degrees F. on warm dry surfaces. Apply when the streets are dry, the sun is in the sky and no inclement weather is forecast. Dries in 1-2 hours, depending on thickness of application and weather; cures in 24 hours. Low temperatures, high humidity and evening and morning dew will require increased drying/curing time.
Application Tools for Snow Seal®
Ames'® industrial-strength coatings are easy to apply for the Do-It-Yourselfer. Most Ames products may be applied by brush, roller, push broom, or sprayer. Depending upon the roughness of the surface, preparation, and the specific application, you may need one or more of the following:
Estimated Coverage
Standard product coverage on a smooth surface is 100 sq. ft. per gallon per coat (est. 10ml). More than one coat recommended. More coats equal longer life.
