UHMW-PE  (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is one of the most versatile and resilient thermoplastics on the market. It is easily cut and machined with standard wood and metalworking tools. UHMW-PE has extremely low moisture absorption, excellent impact resistance, is self lubricating eliminating the need for oils or grease, and has a very low coeffient of friction (comparable to teflon).  It is also resistant to abrasion (15 times more resistant than carbon steel). UHMW-PE is is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, with exception of oxidizing acids. It has a maximum continuous service temperature of 180 degrees F. Applications include slide bars, wear strips, bearings, bushings, rollers, conveyor liners, gear wheels, snow plough blades, bowling alleys, food and beverage machinery, chemical, mining, and mineral processing equipment, recreational equipment, and orthopedic implants. UHMW-PE is available in two grades: Virgin and Reprocessed. Virgin UHMW-PE is the most common variety. It is white in colour, and is F.D.A. approved for food and beverage applications. Reprocessed UHMW-PE is black in colour, is not F.D.A approved, but retains most of the physical properties of virgin material other than impact resistance (15 percent loss is typical). It is also slightly more economical. Available in Rod (Virgin grade only) and Sheet in various sizes. Please check with your nearest store for stock sizes. REPROCESSED UHMW-PE:
